Joining the pro-Net Neutrality viral video brigade

I’ve been a bit slow in joining in on the YouTube fad - I’ve kinda always been a man a few minutes behind my time - and I have all the more reason not to, since I have to temporarily disable one of the WordPress plugins to post YouTube videos, but I just couldn’t pass on this video posted by John Aravosis over at AmericaBLOG.

They have not lead. We will.

Remember this line from then-Governor Bush’s 2000 convention speech (which turned out to be one of the many lies of his 2000 campaign that the "librul" media ignored)?

Our military is low on parts, pay and morale. If called on by the commander-in-chief today, two entire divisions of the Army would have to report, "Not ready for duty, sir."

Whoops. Whoops. Whoops. And mega-OMG-whoops!

And by the way, when Bush said this in 2000:

To point out that our military has been overextended, taken for granted and neglected, that’s no criticism of the military. That is criticism of a president and vice president and their record of neglect.

not one conservative commentator accused him of "blaming America first," "hating the troops," or "helping the terrorists." Yet now, whenever some liberal makes a similar criticism of Bush and his Rubber-Stamp Congress, these are the exact labels applied by conservative pundits from Pillz-E on down.

Guess what changed between then and now?

Glenn Greenwald is - dare I say - en fuego*

Greenwald has two most excellent (said in Montgomery Burns voice) posts today. The first, "Jonah Goldberg speaks out against demonization tactics," details, through the example of Jonah Goldberg’s latest rant about the Israel vs. Hezbollah guerrilla war, the typical right wing hypocrisy of decrying Hitler references and demonization tactics coming from the right’s enemies while engaging in exactly the same tactics themselves. Hey Jonah, as George Carlin once said, "Let’s not have a double standard here! One standard will do just fine!"

The second post, "Breaking: Mel Gibson’s Liberalism exposed!" shows that when conservatives want to throw somebody under the proverbial bus, they are quick to call them a "librul." And just in case the knuckle-draggers are a bit slow on the uptake, they liken the "former conservative" to Michael Moore. (bonus points for making a "Michael Moore is fat LOL!!!!!11!!!1!1!!" joke)

Or as Digby put it much earlier and much better than I:

There is no such thing as a bad conservative. "Conservative" is a magic word that applies to those who are in other conservatives’ good graces. Until they aren’t. At which point they are liberals.

Be sure to check both posts out. They’re very informative.

*With apologies to Dan Patrick.

Comment on Mel’s DUI, get racist spam in response!

The following was captured by the default comment filter that comes with Blogsome’s version of WordPress (Emphasis mine. Note also that each "article" in the spam had a link. I have removed these to keep their hit counter from spinning. Worse, the same spam was received not just once, but TWICE!):

Report: Mel Gibson’s DUI - Went on "Anti-Semetic" Tirade! (3620 views)Chicago - Skinhead Leader Murdered (1924 views)So what would you do if you fell in love with a non-white…. (1168 views)BNP spokesman praises Israel, insults WNs (1154 views)Your thoughts on Asians? (628 views)WWIII : Scenarios And Analysis Of Development Of The Coming War (599 views)

And yes, the emphasis is important. Stormfront is listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group. Their big thing is hating Blacks and Jews, in addition to practicing standard right-wing fare: bloviating against "political correctness," taxes, abortion, gays, regulation of private enterprise - the whole nine yards.

So why bother lil’ ol’ me, a (VERY) small potatoes "librul" blogger with comment spam? Well, I suspect that they got their hands on one of those nifty comment spam bots, programmed it to run a Google blog search for something along the lines of "Mel Gibson DUI anti-semitic" and barf the above contents into the comments section of every blog it comes across. Considering that most computers these days can do something on the order of a billion operations per second (at a minimum), even if my blog were hit number 500,000,000,000 on just such a search, it probably wouldn’t take more than a few minutes go get around to my blog.

It just goes to show that the Internets are a double-edged sword.
