Interludes and Examinations

So, my next catchup post was supposed to be about Rummy’s demonization of administration critics from behind the skirts of a group known to lob terrorist threats at anti-war protestors. I have instead decided to turn it into a post adding my comments to Keith Olbermann’s series of special comments. I’ll have that up later today because I have to go to work in a few hours. (Incidentally, that means that I’ll miss out on Stephanie Miller today. I so wanted to hear her reaction to Olbermann’s mention of the death threat against her, since he’s on her “Future Husbands” list.)

To tide you over until then, I thought I would add a few thoughts on a copule of things that have happened since I sorta-kinda got back into blogging. First, I will not mention the Mark Foley Page Scandal™ as that discussion has already been pretty much run into the ground, and by much more articulate people than I.

In regard to Sen. Kerry’s botched joke about Operation Iraqi Liberation, let me say that I am in no way surprised at the “librul” media’s appaling treatment of the incident. In today’s political climate, a Republican could get caught red-handed eating babies while simultaneously engaging in beastiality, and he’d get nothing but glowing adoration from the media and pundits, assuming the incident isn’t buried in a one-paragraph blurb on page Z-269. Meanwhile, if a Democrat so much as jaywalks, it’s front page news for the next week - complete with calls for said Democrat to resign their membership in the human race.

A couple of examples to illustrate my point: Hoax anthrax letters are sent to the office of former President Clinton and to Keith Olbermann. The Clinton incident is barely a blip on the radar of the “librul” media, and Newscorp/Faux-owned propaganda organ The New York Post yuks it up as if committing terrorism against someone for the thoughtcrime of expressing an opinion to the left of Torquemada is high comedy.

Example number 2: The same week of Kerry’s flubbed jab at Bush, House Majority Leader John Boehner blames the troops in Iraq (specifically, the anti-Bush generals) for all the bad news in Our Glorious Experiment in Revolution From Without. Guess whose comments get wall-to-wall coverage, positive or negative? Guess who becomes the “librul” media’s whipping boy?

And that’s all that needs to be said about that, as far as I’m concerned.

In other news, I went to my first meeting of the Austin chapter of Drinking Liberally on Tuesday. At first, I had trouble finding the group because the designated sign-bearer hadn’t arrived yet. I managed to find the group anyway due to the handy presence of an Air America totebag among the revelers. Although I didn’t drink (mainly because I don’t like the taste of most alcoholic beverages), I still managed to enjoy good conversation and the freedom to rant about the fascist thugs in charge without worrying about being monitored by the NSA.

And finally, after seeing the MyDD Googlebomb effort replicated by the fine folks at The Talent Show, I decided to join in on the fun, as well:
