Molly Ivins - R.I.P.
Geez, I go procrastinating again and look what happens - the late, great Molly Ivins succumbs to breast cancer.
While I never met her in person, and the closest I ever got to spitting distance of her was the time at DemocracyFest 2005 when I was still puzzling out the zoom function on my Samsung Digimax 4010 digital camera, I loved her acerbic wit and take-no-prisoners deconstruction of the Bushies.
But worst of all, her death comes only four months after former Texas Governor Ann Richards succumbed to esophageal cancer. Like Ivins, Richards was a feisty spitfire who didn’t suffer fools lightly. Now that these two wonderful liberal Texans are gone, the torch be Jim Hightower’s to hold it high as Texas’ last liberal with a national voice (though that may change if Amanda Marcotte grows in prominence as a result of Professional Outrage Maven Bill Dono-spew’s crusade against her First Amendment rights - more on that later). I’m going to start worrying if Hightower so much as sniffles…
