What the Scooter Libby trial was really all about

According to Patrick Fitzgerald’s comments when Scooter Libby was initially charged in connection with the illegal, treasonous outing of CIA NOC Valerie Plame and her front company Brewster Jennings & Associates, what Scooter Libby did was the legal equivalent of the following:

That’s what this case was about: perjury and obstruction of justice - the same grounds that Clinton’s impeachment was allegedly based on (when in reality the Monica Lewinsky affair was really about Republicans so blinkered by Clinton Derangement Syndrome that they didn’t care about doing what was best for the country).

MSRNC: Jury convicts Libby on four charges

I just hope that, in spite of what Patrick Fitzgerald said about not pursuing further charges “unless new information comes to light,” more members of the Bush administration come under criminal indictment (I’m looking at you Vice-President Perma-Sneer) or the Democrats finally grow a spine and put impeachment back on the table.

Yet Another NRA Lynch Mob

Why am I not surprised that the NRA is engaging in lynch mob tactics against those who utter the slightest disagreement with their tactics? Seriously, for the crime of stating that hunters, as sportsmen, don’t need assault rifles to hunt, Jim Zumbo’s career, and perhaps his life, has been threatened by NRA members gone wild.

BiggAndyy had perhaps the best one-word summary of the situation: “Zumbonied.”

You know, it’s kinda funny how righties always criticize the left for having no morals and for opposing their push for theocracy based on nothing more than sheer hatred for Christians and Biblical principles. Here I was thinking that “And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” was a Biblical principle. How foolish of me. I guess that I don’t have the special Fundie version of the Bible, in which the original text of 1 Corinthians 13:13 has been replaced with this:

And now abideth abortion, homosexual unions, gun rights, these three; but the greatest of these is gun rights.

So where does it end for the NRA? We’ve just seen them declare open war on anyone who dares offer a sensible argument on the subject. What else have they been up to in the recent past? They’re behind the push for states to pass the infamous “shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more and then when everybody’s dead try to ask a question or two” laws (But, yer honor, I just had to shoot ‘em. He was a f4gg07, and thus a threat to my marriage!!!). Florida passed the first one back in October, 2005, and my home state of Texas is currently considering one. They’ve also gone after their ostensible allies at ConocoPhillips over a corporate policy that puts the lives of their employees (you know, the people that do the actual work that brings the CEO his bajillions of lucre) above what the NRA feels is the duty of every American citizen - to own as much of all forms of superior firepower as they can afford, and take all that massive firepower everywhere they go. The NRA even went on a billboard ad spree accusing ConocoPhillips of hating the Second Amendment.

It seems to me that they want to make it mandatory for everyone currently living in the United States to own everything from rocket-propelled grenades to Desert Eagles. Which just helps the terorists.
