Comic book character killed off, MSRNC held criminally liable by conservatives
Oh, you just know this will set off the more unhinged right-wing bloggers. MSRNC is reporting, under the unfortunate headline “Death to ‘America’: Comic-book hero killed off,” that Marvel Comics is killing off the character Captain America in its newest, and possibly final issue of the spandex-and-shield-toting hero’s adventures.
As the article notes, this is not the first time that a major comic book character has been killed off. The most famous offing of a superhero was, perhaps, Superman’s “death” at the hands of Doomsday. However, none have had the close association with the American mythos that Captain America (who, incidentally, is the inspiration for the City of Heroes NPC Statesman) has. Therefore, I would not be surprised to see right-wingers look at this story and, just from the headline alone, declare MSRNC an “enemy of the State.” I’m sure Our Lady of the Internment Camps will exhort her unglued readers to go do that voodoo that they do so well, and within days, MSRNC’s Secaucus, NJ headquarters will get firebombed or sent fake anthrax.
