Put that in your Christofascist pipe and smoke it!
In spite of their recent victories, the Religious Reich remains impatient with the pace of America’s transformation from a representative democracy to a repressive theocracy. In the last few weeks, there has been a notable increase in the already volcano-level hatred directed at anyone who dares to disagree with conservative Christians in any way whatsoever.
Oh, it started innocently enough…with a frivolous lawsuit. The plaintiff claims to be a Democrat - sure, in the Zell Miller/Joe LieberDerm sense, maybe, but not in any definition I’d recognize. He’s suing because the Massachusetts Bar Exam had the temerity to include a non-homobigot-approved question about domestic-relations law. As zuzu, guest-blogging at Majikthise, points out:
But, honeypie — none of the people I know who failed the bar simply refused to answer questions because answering them might imply that they approved of, say, the death penalty. Because that — well, that would be just stupid. And who’s got the time to quibble when there are so many other questions to get through?
And in any event, failing the bar exam isn’t $9.75 million worth of suck. Very little is $9.75 million worth of suck. I don’t even think Abner Louima got $9.75 million, and he was violently sodomized with a broomstick in a police station and lost large portions of his intestines.
You . . . failed the bar exam.
I mean, you did study law, right? You learned how laws work? And how court decisions work? And that knowing what the law *is* and how it works doesn’t mean that you approve of the outcome. Right? I mean, just because I could tell you how the Supreme Court voted in, say, Bush v. Gore doesn’t mean that I *approve* of the outcome.
(Italics in original, bolding mine.)
File this one under “Maybe law just isn’t the career for you.”
From there, it got progressively worse. Pope Benedict Arnold I, forever cementing in my mind his eternal hostility to anything more liberal than the Spanish Inquisition, first rolled back restrictions on the Latin Mass (Boy, he’s really in a rush to shit on Vatican II, isn’t he?), then, harkening back to the days of Martin Luther and the Reformation, declared the Catholic Church to be The One True Church™. As if he hasn’t already created bigger headaches for the Catholic Church and Christianity as a whole by doing much the same thing on a global scale. Revitalize the Catholic Church? This guy couldn’t revitalize cold turkey!
Of course, no round of feces-flinging-monkey-level of religiosity would be complete without violence and threats of violence, which brings us to the case of three nitwits up near Dallas and their…ahem…abortive attempt to blow up the Victory Family Church in Burleson (just south of Fort Worth) during Independence Day celebrations. As Sara Robinson points out over at Orcinus:
When fascism comes to America, this is precisely what it will look like: cults that incite violence, firebombed churches, the young men caught up in a noble cause; the emphasis on national purification; the hostility toward religions (even other Christian groups) that don’t hew to their orthodoxy; the belief that the world is corrupt (”accumulated trash”) and the only answer is eliminationist violence against those they believe are doing the devil’s work.
(Bolding mine.)
These bozos hit all of the right-wing Christian code words. “[S]ociety has become too focused on…self-gratification” - translation: dem bitches are gettin’ too uppity and need to get back in the kitchen and fix us good Christians some sammiches!
“They admit to being Christian and being brought up Christian, but they believe there should be one denomination and one church, not multiple denominations,” [Burleson PD Commander Chris] Havens said.
Translation: “You say you’re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don’t have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don’t have to be nice to them.”
“[P]ast generations have accumulated trash and are responsible for making younger generations clean up their mess.” Translation: “Libruls” and Muslims and Gays! Oh my!
I think you get the picture by now.
Meanwhile, The Terrorist Group Formerly Known As Operation Rescue is currently storming not the Bastille, but the site of one of Eric Rudolph’s bloody rampages of terror. For all their talk about how the Eric Rudolph wing of the anti-abortion movement doesn’t represent mainline opposition to abortion, they sure are doing everything they can to reinforce the opposite impression. Here’s a hint, boyos: if you want to convince us that you aren’t the extremist terrorists we on the left make you out to be, you might want to consider avoiding commemorating the sentencing and incarceration of one terrorist. Not “re-enacting” the terrorist acts of another abortion opponent would also help. And while you’re at it, laying off the Jack Torrance/Norman Bates treatment in order to pressure clinic workers into quitting would be nice, too. Just a thought.
And finally, we come to the latest conservative Christian outrage. For the first time in American history, the Senate had called upon a Hindu chaplain to give the opening prayer to start the session last Thursday. Sadly, the American Family Fascist Association got wind of the plan, and decided to give the chaplain a taste of that legendary Christian hospitality:
Here’s some of the comments made at an AFA-affilated website before the chaplain’s prayer:
It’s not about being a diverse country. It’s about the fact that there is only one GOD and this person’s ‘prayer’ is an insult to the one true God and all that he has done for our ‘diverse country’.
I too would like to know why a Hindu prayer? Christians are beginning to be persecuted in our country with denial of our rights to display our heritage and religious things. I believe in being open minded, but not so open our brains fall out. Lets stick with what our founding fathers planned for us. It’s worked for over 200 years and now is not the time to change.
Maybe Scott has forgotten we are in AMERICA - not a Hindu nation. Remember one nation UNDER GOD was written here in America for Americans, so pagen [sic] worship should not even be considered. I believe it is the intent of our government to destroy that in some manner and this is just a small token of what is to come.
What’s next?? Have we fallen so far in American that we are now praying to false gods?Liberals are selling out this country, and seem
to be bent on doing so.Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD!
How much longer will the LORD GOD tolerate such rebellion?? The Bible makes it clear by example that the LORD will not allow such rebellion without our suffering the consequences.
GOD help us!!
This is the reason that our country is having so many difficulties. We are ONE NATION UNDER GOD. Not one nation under many gods. As christians we are the majority, why are we letting all these sects to do what they want in our country??????????????. We must stand for what we believe. And we must do it NOW.
Sorry majority rules in this country and Christians are the majority. Please take your seat now.
I agree with the others. Ours is a monotheistic country. I am very much against any but Christian prayers in our government.
I think it’s time for political correctness to go away. We need to take back our great country and put God first. If others want to live here, they need to understand that this is a Christain nation and abide by our laws and customs.
It’s meant to be a slap in the face of the conservatives and Christians, whom the politicians see as getting in the way of their world order and agenda. Pure and simple. The fact that this particular religion has many, many, many, many gods taken as a direct quote is paganism pure and simple. Once we see them allowing a wican prayer, we can be assured our assumptions about this Government and especially Congress are correct - they are the tool of satan and the anti-christ. Our founding fathers are rolling in the graves. I doubt many of our “poltiicians” in Washington DC could even name more than two of our founding fathers. They just don’t care. Anybody remember Gore asking “who are all these guys” pointing to the circle of founding father’s busts in Jeffereson’s home just prior to Clinton’s inauguration? And they call Bush stupid.
I love the words of Charles Wesley’s great hymn, Soldiers of Christ Arise:
“Soldiers of Christ, arise, and put your armor on, Strong in the strength which God supplies through His eternal Son.
Strong in the Lord of hosts, and in His mighty power, Who in the strength of Jesus trusts is more than conqueror.
Stand then in His great might, with all His strength endued, But take, to arm you for the fight, the panoply of God.
That, having all things done, and all your conflicts passed, Ye may o’ercome through Christ alone and stand entire at last.”
Although this world is not our home, while we are here on earth we must battle evil in the most extraordinary and ordinary of circumstances. Paul writes in Ephesians 6:13, “Put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.” And that day is coming … soon, when political correctness is no longer such a stupid reality.
Don’t fret my beloved Christian Brothers and Sisters. Just remember, WE WILL WIN THE WAR!!We will rejoice when we come back as the original inheritors of God’s earth and Jesus reigns. Won’t it be nice without the many evils that exist here on earth. Ahhhh. Can’t wait. May God Bless America and his World.May God have mercy on us.
and after:
What can you expect from politicians who don’t have a clue about what this country was founded upon. I would not want to be in their shoes at “THE” time.
I cried as I listened to this. I’m not sure that people understand what kind of impact this has had on America and what is going to happen now. It’s like a slap in the face to me as a born again Christian and I know that the Lord was saddened by it. I cannot believe that this was allowed at all and it makes me very sad. Father, please have mercy on us all…..
Seems to me as if many Christians are getting tired of having to constantly turn the other cheek. Shame on who ever allowed a p[agan prayer to be introduced should be disciplined.
If we are Christian and we believe in one the One God, then we also believe in Satan. This action in the Senate has THROWN THE DOORS OPEN TO SATAN AND HIS DEMONIC SPIRITS. WATCH HOW QUICKLY SATANIC SPIRITS FILL THE SENATE! IT WILL HAPPEN FASTER THAN IT CAN BE REPORTED BY THE MEDIA!!!!!!! The only reversal will be when the other 99 Senators (on their knees)banish Satan in the name of Jesus and by the power of the blood shed on the Cross for our sins.
Madness. Pure Madness. Whoever allowed it ought to be fired. Wrong as wrong can be. Christians unite. Arm yourselves. The war against Christians is here.
I am so ashamed of what this country is becoming. Never, ever would I have thought that America would allow such a thing as a prayer to a pagan god be prayed to on our Senate floor. There is no common sense whatsoever being shown by our leaders. If they are not corrupt before going into office it seems shortly thereafter they are swayed in so becoming. Every poll that you see says that America is a Christian believing nation. Why is it then that we stand aside and allow this happen? The unrelenting squeaking and nagging of the minority is getting their way while we sit aside and allow this happen. There needs to be an uprising among Americans so great that there would be no denying that we are sick and tired of the evilness that has been allowed to run rampant in the country. We have become diseased. Every official who is not competent in his job needs to be removed immediately. It breaks my heart to think of the thousands of people who have died for this country for it turn out the way it is headed. I have loved my America so and now I am watching her crumble before my eyes.
This country was founded on God’s law, not the law of the “deity supreme who is inside the heart of the Earth”. I am tolerant that others may have a different religion or beliefs. I really am okay with that. HOWEVER, when this country was founded, it was by Bible-banging Christians who were fed up with religious oppression in England. 51 of the 54 founding fathers of this nation were professing Christians. Hence, why God is on our money. Why God is in our pledge. You may choose to deny Him and that is your God given right of free will. But I will not stand by quietly when people want to delete God from the country when it is because of His blessings we are the strongest and richest nation in the world.
I respect that you may have an opinion, as you are allowed to have, but don’t begin to think you can understand the tolerance and acceptance of Christians. We put up with more then you have any idea about…
We need more Christians to stand up and become warriors for His name like those people that got forced out of the Senate who stood up for Christ. We Christians have become soft and this is the result, pagan prayers in our government building while any mention of Jesus holy name gets stomped upon. It is our duty to stand up to the anti-Christs whom dare to oppose the Son of God.
Frankly, I’m amazed that the “Theocracy NOW!” crowd didn’t throw a live hand grenade at the dude.
So Dennis? Put that in your Christofascist pipe and smoke it!
