Blaming America first

Just a reminder. It was six years ago today that the late Mullah Jerry Falwell blamed Americans first for 9/11.

Speaking of Stalinist Purges…

Theocratic, vulgar, trash-talking bigot Bill Dono-spew is at it again. This time, the professional outrage maven’s sights are set on Kathy Griffin, whose only crime was mocking her fellow celebrities’ insincere piety when receiving awards. Her punishment, which came at the behest of Donohue’s thuggish tactics, was to have her acceptance speech at the Primetime Emmy Awards Ceremony telecast censored.

I wonder if Donohue threatened to behead and dismember the telecast’s producers.

Sadly, the censorship of Kathy Griffin wasn’t enough for Donohue. He’s still calling for her to apologize for the crime of exercising her First Amendment rights. I wouldn’t be surprised if, before the week is out, he commits an act of economic terrorism by calling for her to be blacklisted.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between Bill Donohue and John Gotti.

UC Irvine law school’s inaugural dean’s tenure measured in days - political reasons cited. (hat tip, Atrios)

About a week ago, Erwin Chemerinsky, the well-known constitutional law scholar at Duke, signed a contract to be the inaugural Dean of the new law school at the University of California at Irvine.

Yesterday, the Chancellor of the University of Cailfornia at Irvine flew to Durham and fired Chemerinsky, saying that he had not been aware of how Chemerinsky’s political views would make him a target for criticism from conservatives.

It is quite amazing that in a purportedly liberal state like California, the Chancellor of a major UC campus has apparently caved into political pressure from conservatives, even though, on the merits, Chemerinsky was a far more prominent scholar than the University had any reason to suppose it would be able to land for a brand new law school.

It’s fair to say that the future does not look bright for the planned UC Irvine law school. Who will take the job now given this history?

Patriotic correctness strikes again. I’m sure this news will send David Horowitz into paroxysms of one-handed typing.

Makin’ progress.

BAGHDAD - The most prominent figure in a revolt of Sunni sheiks against al-Qaida in Iraq was killed Thursday in an explosion near his home in Anbar province, police said.

Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha was leader of the Anbar Salvation Council, also known as the Anbar Awakening — an alliance of clans backing the Iraqi government and U.S. forces.

It’s hard work. Stay the course.
