Chris Dodd puts a hold on Telecom Shamnesty
Thank goodness SOMEONE cares about the rule of law. Bush sure as hell doesn’t.
Oy.
A random schmuck mouthing off about the state of the world.
Thank goodness SOMEONE cares about the rule of law. Bush sure as hell doesn’t.
Oy.
Hell, two of ‘em didn’t even wait for the override vote to fail. The wingnuts are in full cackling and towel-snapping mode - Scientology’s scare tactics work, after all.
And, of course, now they’re trying to sound like leaders without, you know, actually leading:
As I noted last night, they’ll unveil their SCHIP alternative at 3pm Eastern today.
Yes, they’ve got an “alternative” to S-CHIP in the works. And apparently, it’s been written for the Rethuglicans by the right-wing “think” tank, The Heritage Foundation.
I believe the bill is entitled the “Are There No Poorhouses?” Act. I’m guessing that it’s because the “If They Would Rather Die, They Had Better Do It And Decrease The Surplus Population” Act doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
Gov. Goodhair endorsed Rudy “President of 9/11″ Giuliani this week. I guess the governor thought that since Giuliani was surrounding himself with neocons even The Most Holy George W. Christ is wierded out about, this would help burnish his conservative credentials to Texans who think the governor is not authoritarian enough.
A funny side note to the story is that the local fishwrap - that “librul” bastion that endorsed Bush in both 2000 and 2004, has as the headline to its dead-trees edition “A moderate nudge right.” As if Giuliani and Perry were both somehow anywhere within one AU of “moderate,” much less “liberal.” Although I guess that they’re so far-right that they don’t have much room to go more than “moderately” far right…
You know that S-CHIP expansion bill that President Two-Trillion-Dollar-War-of-Choice vetoed to prove his fiscal conservative (laugh) bona fides? Turns out, it also contains two provisions to help families of wounded veterans. Those provisions would provide one year of protection from employment discrimination for families caring for severely wounded soldiers, and would extend FMLA protections for such families to six months (as opposed to current universal three month protection under FMLA).
Whoops.
Michelle, why do you hate the troops?
Pillz-E’s not gonna like this. 12 former Army captains who served in Iraq have written an op-ed in the Washington Post calling for withdrawl from Iraq at best possible speed.
Go ahead, Pillz-E. Call them “phony soldiers.” Call them “staff pukes.” Claim they went to Iraq “to pad their resumes.” I dare you.
Seesh.
Dennis Prager wants to “ass” us a question:
What’s the problem? Ohhhhhhhh only that pissing contests about which religion is “perfect” or “true” have led to the bloodiest, most brutal wars and abuses of human rights on the face of the planet. But other than that, it’s great fun! Why do you ask?
* With apologies to Al Jaffee.
Meet Congressman Joe Knollenberg’s Chief of Staff, Trent Wisecup. Notice how he tries to shove campaign fliers in front of the camera lens before getting in the face of the cameraman, Bruce Fealk. He seems to have no use for democracy and dissent:
Let’s see, questioning the infallibility of The Most Holy George W. Christ makes you un-patriotic, a non-citizen (all the better to send you to Gitmo) who is blinded by hatred of America BLAH BLAH BLAH YADDA YADDA YADDA DIE DIE DIE KILL KILL KILL and … wants Toyota to beat GM? That’s a bit out of left right field there, don’cha think, Trenty? Geeze. The right’s got nothing left to throw at us but stale talking points and bizarre wackaroonery.
Wow. Just…wow. I am in awe. No wonder they feel the need to stalk 12-year-olds.
Thankfully, we can count on The Young Turks to inject some sanity into Wisecrap’s insane rant:
Okay. I jumped the gun a bit on the Randi Rhodes "mugging" story. My bad. (This is something you’ll never see from a serial liar like Michelle MalKKKin, wingnuts. Pay attention. It’s called responsible blogging. You might want to look into it sometime.)
Something else you won’t see from the MalKKKinites: evidence of reading comprehension skills. Consider the following from my original post on the subject, when I believed (past tense, wingnuts!) that a mugging had taken place:
It’s too early to tell if this was just an ordinary mugging, or a politically-motivated assault. However, in light of the above, and given the right’s history of violence, repeated death threats and stalking aginst people they don’t like, I would not be surprised in the least if this was caused by someone from the Unhinged Wingnut Brigade in an effort to shut her up.
In other words, going on the information I had at the time (which later turned out to be erroneous), I STILL HEDGED ON WHETHER OR NOT IT WAS A DELIBERATE ASSAULT OR A RANDOM MUGGING. I also said that IF (there’s that key word again!) it was a deliberate assault, you could narrow it down to people who held a certain ideology, BASED ON the hateful, violence-inducing rhetoric that the right has been spewing non-stop for the last twenty years (like, oh, say, Ann Coulter referring to the 2004 DNC as the "Spawn of Satan" convention, Ann Coulter saying that the "best" way to "talk" to a liberal is to hit him/her in the head with a baseball bat, that sorta thing…), but especially within the last week. In other words, I was using evidence-based reasoning that happened to be predicated on a faulty premise. My bad.
Yet somehow, that was transformed into the claim that I accused Malkin herself of personally laying a finger on Rhodes, like some perverse game of "Telephone."
Also, a key fact that Malkin (conveniently) ignores is that Right Blogistan hasn’t been angelic in regard to the initial reportage, either: conservatives trolling on liberal blogs also bought into the story, if for no other reason than to rhetorically kick an outspoken liberal female while she was down. Take a gander at these geniuses:
The beating will probably improve her looks.
Hope the dog was OK. Please post something on the DOG!!
Making a crack about her looks and caring more about the dog than her. Classy-with-a-K.
Please stop calling her a dog! It’s disrespectful to Simon. She is a bitch, there is a difference. I hope Simon is OK.
Because conservatives only argue on the merits and never resort to ad hominems.
Yeah, it must have been a right wing whacko, because nobody gets mugged in NYC, right? Wow, you moonbats are really off the deep end. I really don’t think it was one of the couple dozen listeners of Air America, but it could be someone that Rhodes owes money to, like her meth dealer.
Geez. A liberal gets injured, and all of a sudden, they’re a druggie? Does blaming the victim ever get old on the right?
Dear Randi,
It’s called Karma, get used to it. Remeber a couple of years ago when you went on the airwaves and hoped for the death of President Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld?
Well honey, karma is a funny thing.Just A Grunt, Michelle Malkin commenter
Apparently not.
Next up, Vodkapundit joins the "dogpile on the librul host" orgy:
I know this is hardly the time for cruel honesty, immediately after a brutal assault. But when you work for Air America, muggers are going to pretty much assume that you walk around unarmed.
Meanwhile, RightWingDuck at IMAO "jokingly" supports random acts of violence against liberals - in the vein of Ann Coulter "jokingly" wishing Tim McVeigh had blown up the New York Times building:
At the risk of sounding controversial, I have to say that I fully support the person or persons who mugged Liberal talk host Randi Rhodes. I know it may not be a popular choice to make, but I believe I’m making it for all the right reasons.
Violence against liberals = high comedy. Who knew?
Oy. I feel ill already. And I haven’t even started receiving death threats yet.
Word is that she had several teeth knocked out. The attack took place near her apartment while she was walking her dog, Simon. And since she wasn’t wearing a purse or any jewelry - just some jogging clothes and her house keys - it makes me think that, as John Elliot put it, “this does not appear […] to be a standard grab the money and run mugging.”
Hey Stalkin’ Malkin, care to tell us something about this?
