Operation Poutine-bake*

The fine folks at Sadly, No! (among other places) have already done a fabulous job tearing apart the post over at NRO where Mark Steyn, Scientologist, declared his eternal enmity for the media’s anointed GOP saint, Sen. John McCain. However, I just wanted to get at one of the many absurdities Steyn vomits up in his objections to the senior Senator (in more ways than one) from Arizona:

As for his my line about “some greedy people on Wall Street extremely atypical poster [children who] need to be punished are Fair Game™“, aside from being almost entirely irrelevant to the subject under discussion (the subprime S-CHIP “crisis”), it reveals, I think, one of the most unpleasant aspects of McCain myself. For a so-called “maverick” “compassionate conservative”, he’s very comfortable with I get a giant stiffy from the application of Big Government Corporate power, and the assumption of Big Government Corporate virtue - especially if it’s applied against those Lucky Duckies™ who have to choose between paying the rent and keeping their children fed and healthy.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I slipped him a truth-serum mickey here. I promise, it won’t happen again (unless he deserves it).

Undoubtedly there are “greedy people on Wall Street”. Why should he and his chums be the ones who decide whether they need to be “punished”?

Gee, I dunno, Mark. Undoubtedly there are Muslims in Canada, too. Why should you and your chums be the ones who decide whether they need to be “culled”?

If greed is to be punishable, why doesn’t he start with a pilot program applied to, say, the United States Senate and report back to us in five years how that’s going?

Well, if sectarian jihads are to be punishable, why don’t you start with a pilot program applied to, say, Canadian conservatives (especially those who want to shove all Muslims into human-sized microwaves) and report back to us in five years how that’s going?

Yech. I’m not sure I can stand any more of Steyn’s extra-batshit-crazy blend of wingnuttery. Better get a bucket, I’m gonna throw up!

* The title is a reference to two things - the “Canadian comfort food” and the anti-Scientology website Operation Clambake. I thought it rather appropriate given that the subject of this post declared a 12-year-old “Fair Game.”

I’ve heard dumb arguments against evolution before, and I’ve heard weird arguments against evolution (both thanks to Prof. Myers), but this one takes the cake:

Evolution too boring

Yes, you read that right. 3v1lution is bad because it’s as exciting as watching flies fuck! And it goes downhill from there:

Re: Jan. 21 commentary “Don’t call creationism science.”

John Young’s [op-ed columnist for the Waco Tribune-Herald] column is another attempt to keep the Institute of Creation Research from attaining a graduate degree program for creation science.

Young fails to see that Darwinism has failed to pique the interest of students to further their academic knowledge. Except for T-rex kicking dinosaur butt, evolution stinks. It’s boring and no self-respecting kid is going to lay claim that he came from a monkey.

Darwinism has contributed more to the dumbing down of our kids than all the negligent, uncaring, uninvolved and pathetic parents combined.

See what I mean? First off he plays the persecuted victim card. Then, he falsely asserts that it’s the subject matter, not the manner in which it is presented that’s turning off students. The “3v1lution sez we came frum monkeez” trope is just standard IDiot fare. But then he finishes by saying that merely talking about evolution (conflating it with “Darwinism” is yet another creationist trope) makes our kids stupid.

I swear, the stupid burns so much that I can’t even form a coherent response. Dr. Myers, wanna give it a try?

On his radio show this morning, Bill Press suggested that the Democratic nominee - should he/she win in November - ought to nominate Sen. Edwards for the Supreme Court. It’s an interesting idea, and I have no doubt that Edwards would make a decent judge - certainly much better than the whackjobs Bush has nominated. However, I think (and I’m not alone in this line of thinking) that Edwards would be much more effective as Attorney General.

The bridge situation is much worse than we thought. Not only have more bridges than previously reported had their inspections unreasonably delayed, but the Federal Highway Administration essentially let it happen! Say it with me, folks:

Worst. President. Ever.

President MBA’s low cost ueber alles mentality strikes again. Still think that every single solitary thing government does is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% wrong and every single solitary thing private enterprise does is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% right?

Cue evil laughter….

Keith Olbermann just announced that he’s going to have a Special Comment™ on FISA tomorrow.

Edwards and 9iu11ani are out. As I’ve mentioned before, I supported Sen. Edwards in the primaries, and so naturally, I am disappointed that he’s decided to end his run.

Sidebar: I was actually an initial supporter of Sen. Obama because I liked his message of hope, and because he can give a damn good speech. However, between seeing that Edwards was stronger in head-to-head comparisons and my disappointment with Obama’s rather lackluster debate performances and seeming inability to get beyond “glittering generalities”, I became an Edwards supporter. Now that it’s down to Obama vs. Clinton, I think I’ll return to my original preference.

But I can certainly understand the decision, given the way he was treated in the “librul” media. Thanks to their “brownout” of coverage of his candidacy, coupled with their blatant hostility whenever they deigned to talk about him, it’s no wonder he wasn’t able to get any traction among the party faithful.

And sadly, even as he’s dropping out, the “librul” media’s hostility to Edwards continues apace. Politico’s Drudgico’s Anne Schroeder Mullins credits Fux “News” for the death of the Edwards campaign - an assessment I’m sure The Lord of the Loofahs will agree with, even if he hogs all the credit (hat tip, Big Head DC).

Meanwhile, Whorah O’Donnell couldn’t even wait for Edwards’ speech to begin before falsely suggesting that Edwards dropping was good for Hillary (I’ll have to paraphrase, since I can’t seem to find a video or transcript anywhere, but I will update as soon as I find either):

Given that 40% of Edwards supporters listed Sen. Clinton as their second choice, and only 25% favor Sen. Obama, can we say that this is good news for Hillary?

Umm… No, Norah. In case your Republican-shill brain can’t hack the math, 40% plus 25% only adds up to 65%, not 100%. This makes The Keith Number™ (undecideds plus margin-of-error - no relation to the mathematical term of the same name) at least 35%. That’s thirty-five percent of Edwards supporters who could go either way. In other words, they are as likely to support Obama as they are Clinton. If Obama runs the table with the undecided Edwards supporters, he’d have the advantage, not Clinton!

John Kelso sums up Bush’s final State of the Union address much better than I ever could.

Waterboarding Lamar Smith on Truth Serum

I’m utterly embarrassed to say that Lamar Smith (R - Naturally) is my congressman. Unfortunately, he was one of the beneficiaries of DeLay’s Power Grab™. And he goes all out demonstrating why he sucks as a congressman. He does more projection than a 24-screen multiplex* in accusing Democrats of politicizing national security by fighting retroactive immunity for telecoms who participate in Bush’s illegal domestic spying program. In response, I thought it appropriate to run his op-ed in the Moonie-run Washington Times through the truth serum filter. As usual, struck out text is text that would not be “uttered” if the subject were on truth serum, and italicized red text is text that would be “spoken” if the subject were on truth serum.

When conservative Christians attack - in coffee houses!

Apparently this oh so nice, peaceful right-wing Christian woman has none of Christ’s love for those who don’t believe as she does, and goes ape-shit at a coffee shop populated by 3v1l secularists. (Oh, and she doesn’t like the brown people, either!)

You just know that if she’d been spouting off about the virtues of Karl Marx, say, or deploring the treatment of Muslims and Hispanics when she assaulted the cameraman, her picture would be plastered all over Stalkin’ Malkin’s website as yet another example of why all members of whatever group is the current target of her Two Minutes’ Hate is worthy only of being stuffed in human-sized microwaves.
