Akemashite Omedet-oh, crap…
A belated Happy New Year to both of my readers! It seems that some things have happened while I was away that merit comment. First, there was the tragic case of Nataline Sarkisyan, the 17-year-old girl who was sacrificed on the altar of CIGNA’s profit margins. Having seen SiCKO, I figured it was just a matter of time before we got yet another example of how health insurance companies couldn’t give a damn about their customers. Perhaps someone could come up with a Photoshop of CIGNA’s logo that says: “A Business of Negligent Homicide.”
Then there was the case of the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. It was interesting to watch the fallout of the assassination, and quite frankly, just a bit scary. Scary in the sense that if Musharraf falls, or Pakistan’s nukes get out of his hands in some fashion, we could have a very serious security problem. Interesting in the sense that the Pakistani government has been behaving in a manner that strongly stinks of a cover-up - which suggests that they may have had a hand in the assassination. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. One thing’s for sure, though. It kind of makes our unabashed support for Musharraf’s government look like a tactical mistake. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to resolve to post more frequently in 2008. Commensurate with that, I plan on dusting off some blogging skills I haven’t used in a while - like liveblogging an election. I’ll probably also be doing some catblogging tomorrow (the canonical catblogging day), and I may even resort to some politics-related song parodies and putting conservatives under truth serum. We’ll see.
