John Cole on Obama’s “elitist” comments (via the fine folks at Sadly, No!):
[Bunch of evidence showing Rove and the Bushies exploiting the common scapegoats of those facing economic uncertainty - Ed.]
You can go to the census bureau and look at the state rankings for unemployment, per capita income, persons below poverty level, health insurance, etc., and look at where these states ranked. Any guesses?
Again, this may be the elitist in me, but I am thinking you all can put this together on your own with the information I have given you. If a dumb rube like me can put this together and figure out that what Obama said is not only true in the anecdotal sense, but as far as actual numbers and facts go, certainly the alleged “progressives” leaping to seize some sort of advantage for Hillary can figure that out, as well. Which makes their smearing of Obama the past 24 hours all the more depressing.
And really, I have been brief. I just picked gay marriage because it was a glaringly obvious choice. You could go through the list of bullshit they churn up to keep you preoccupied- immigration, the war on Christmas, etc., and do this over and over again. No wonder they feel the need to destroy Obama. He really is a threat to the status quo.
Strangely enough, it wasn’t elitist when Teflon John “Eight Houses” McCain said it back in December. But, then, that doesn’t exactly fit The Narrative™, does it? It’s the Democrats that are elitist, don’cha know?
Former Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) is struggling a bit to adjust to life as a lobbyist.
“I took the Metro for the first time,” Lott told the Sleuth Thursday afternoon in the makeup room of MSNBC, where he and his new lobbying partner, former Sen. John Breaux (D-La.), were fixin (as Lott says) to do a TV segment.
“He’s been standing in front of his house waiting for his car and driver,” laughed Breaux from the makeup chair, adding with a tinge of a low-country twang, “He’s learning how to hail a cab.” (Read: HAY-ul a cab.)
Life in the private sector isn’t as cushy as Lott thought it would be. No more free lunches, no more taxpayer-funded car and driver, no more overprotective press secretary guarding him from the pesky media.
*snip*
Lott really had no idea how to even go about taking public transportation. He didn’t know how to use the Metro fare card machines, or how much money to put on his trip ticket, or how to add money to one of the fare cards his wife gave him. Truly: clueless.
Keep trying, Rethugs. Throw enough shit against the wall, and surely something will stick! And it should be a helluva lot easier with the “librul” media verbally fellating Teflon John 24/7.
Addendum: I forgot to mention some of the comments the Balloon Juice regulars have been making on the story that make the point better than I ever could.
Adam Says:
3 out of 3 CNN pundits agree with you, John. [Note: Watch poor Wolfie try to spin this in Sen. Eight Houses’ favor in the linked video. Pure comedy gold! - Ed.]
THAT MAKES YOU AN ELITIST
TR Says:
Great clip, Adam. Nice to see some actual sense breaking through at CNN.
Toobin’s angle is the right pushback—a guy from a single-parent home, who was a community organizer in Chicago? He’s the elitist? Really? Not the guy who’s second wife is a billionaire beer heiress? Not the former First Lady who’s worth $100 million?
OK, then.

PaulB Says:
That’s the sad thing about our political discourse—that a bit of common sense like this is somehow a gaffe that needs to be trumpeted 24/7, ignoring the very real issues that Obama is trying to raise.
[That’s the New Media™ rule, Paul: Common sense is only a gaffe when spoken by a Democrat. - Ed.]
