What I’m reading:

in Religious Thuggery; War on Science; War on Academia

Source: HarperCollins

The book is a journalist’s account of Kitzmiller et al. v. Dover Area School District and the events leading up to the case that knocked Pat Robertson so off his rocker that he decided to threaten the town with divine retribution. (Not that he had very far to fall, mind you.) It seemed appropriate given the Leni Riefenstahl School of Propaganda term project that opened yesterday.

Paging Karl Marx…

in Religious Thuggery; The WTF?! Files; Things That Make You LOL

Talk about burying the needle on the irony meter. MSRNC’s website has the following headline about the Pope’s address to Catholic youths:

Pope to Youth: Truth, not drugs

My first thought upon reading that was to recall Karl Marx’s famous (though somewhat disingenuously elided) quote:

Religion is the opium of the people.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the unintentional(?) irony.
