Feel the love!

Or not…

LONDON, September 25, 2008 — The Baghdad coordinator of Iraqi LGBT has been assassinated, probably by one of the two religious militia.

Peter Tatchell of Outrage! issued the following statement at lunchtime:

  • This morning, I received news from Iraq that the coordinator of Iraqi LGBT in Baghdad, Bashar, aged 27, a university student, has been assassinated in a barber shop.

Militias burst in and sprayed his body with bullets at point blank range.

He was the organiser of the safe houses for gays and lesbians in Baghdad. His efforts saved the lives of dozens of people.

Bashar was a kind, generous and extremely brave young man – a true hero who put his life on the line to save the lives of others.

My thoughts go out to his loved ones and to the other members of Iraqi LGBT.

Their courage is an inspiration to all people everywhere fighting against injustice.

Mr. Tatchell said that the exact identity of the gunmen is unclear, but Bashar was probably murdered by the Islamist death squads who are targeting lesbian and gay Iraqis for ‘sexual cleansing’.

No word yet as to what the contents of the collective jockey shorts of James Dobson, Matt Barber, Peter LaBarbera and Michael Savage were if/when they found out about this senseless murder.

Doesn’t this remind you of the Presidunce being hand-held by Cheney at the 9/11 Commission hearings?

I know I said I was going to be on hiatus for a while. You could say that I’m taking a break from my break. A vacation from my vacation. Whatevs. I just couldn’t let the latest shoe to drop in Big Shitpile (© Atrios 2007-2008) pass without comment.

Alright. I’ll go back to lurking now.

You’ll notice that I haven’t been very active lately. Believe me, I would’ve had some rather spicy things to say about the events of the last week, but unfortunately, something came up at about the same time.

You see, I’ve been fighting a losing battle with depression for several years now, and on Monday, well…things finally came to a head. I won’t bore you with the details, but needless to say, it’s forced me to reassess my priorities.

So until I get my head back on straight, I will be stepping back from blogging and (most) things political. I appreciate all the support I’ve received in my 3+ years of blogging (all two of you!), and I hope I can come back to it at some point in the future. For now, though, I’m going to take some time for myself and see if I can pick up the pieces and move on from there.

Before I go, though, I do have one parting shot to take. Some idiot wrote the local fishwrap to say this about the Democratic women’s caucus handing out anti-John McCain condoms at the DNC last week:

Motion to dismiss

I have two words to express my thoughts on the passing out of condoms at the Democratic convention.

NO CLASS.

Right. And I suppose Pat believes this to be the height of class:
