That’s as bad as calling the “War on Terror” a “Crusade”
Although I can theoretically support something like this:
Activists urge people to ‘call in gay’ as protest
Effort to show country’s reliance on gays and lesbians in the work force
I have two quibbles of a logistical nature with this particular protest. First of all, with the economy in the toilet, it’s going to be very difficult to measure the impact of this kind of protest — not that that should dissuade anyone who wants to from participating.
My second quibble is more personal, and it is this: would it have killed the protest organizers to come up with a better name than “Day Without A Gay?” I mean, sure it’s a nod to the earlier Latino immigrant rallies, but given the reaction certain wingnuts have to merely the existence of homosexuals, much less their petitioning the government for equal protection under the law, I can’t help but worry that this will cause them to say “Hey, a day without gays? Great idea! How ‘bout a year? How ‘bout we make that year mandatory, say with a constitutional amendment? I mean, it’s not like it’s without precedent in human history! H’yuck! H’yuck!”
And then we’d get the modern day version of this:
But that’s just me.
