Oh, and happy (belated) birthday.

Thanks. I’ll admit that your custom search has inspired me to try and do one for Canada’s wingnutosphere. I’ve got some blogging penpals up there (Canadian Cynic and JJ at Unrepentant Old Hippie) who might find it interesting…

When you get it ready for public consumption, please ping me. I’d be interested in seeing how wingnuts from the two different countries compare and contrast.
BTW, here’s a question for you as a user of my version of Wingnuttia Search: I’m considering removing FreeRepublic from the list, since hits from that site tend to clutter the results, and virtually all of them amount to nothing more than blog comments. Somehow, quote mining from comment sections seems a little unfair. What do you think?

That’s a good question. One the one hand, since wingnuts seem to enjoy using blog comments to condemn a blog author, one could argue that turnabout is fair play. On the other hand, to justify it by pointing to the wingnuts doing it is a tu quoque fallacy.
I’m tempted to say “drop it,” however. In addition to the double standard it presents, we’ve already got at least one blogger on our side (Pam Spaulding comes to mind) who spends part of her time trolling the depths of the FR cesspool for their reaction to current events. That should be good enough.

Thanks for your thoughts. For the moment, I’m leaving it in, partly because it’s easy enough to add -freerepublic.com to the search string, and partly because I sometimes get useful links or a better sense of the wingnut zeitgeist from Freeper results.
