My fellow Americans:

Happy Independence Day!!!



I’m not normally given to overly indulgent displays of patriotism, but given the national nightmare that ended back in January, I feel it particularly important to honor this day with a presentation of the Pledge of Allegiance — first in its original form, then in the form I would prefer for it:

I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Sidebar: Did you know that today is also Malia Obama’s 11th birthday? Doesn’t get more patriotic than that, eh wingnuts?
