Good news for a change

I was wondering why Martin Peretz’s blog had been unceremoniously removed from TNR’s front page

Well, it’s finally over. Martin Peretz, who, according to David Horowitz’s Frontpage webzine, “has been a pillar of responsible liberalism since buying The New Republic magazine in 1974,” has finally been shown the door. He did not go quietly. You can find his parting remarks here and also here and here. Peretz left TNR as he inhabited it: in a splendid (and splenetic) fit of pique, pessimism, and personality-driven politics.

Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Marty.

On second thought, do let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, you Kahanist git.

Sidebar: Too bad Peretz’s new position as “TNR Editor-in-Chief Emeritus” means that he’ll still be spewing his eliminationist bile over the pages of TNR. But at least he won’t have that blog blighting the front page anymore.

  1. My first reaction: You can’t kill Peretz. He’s the unkillable zombie if there ever was one.

    True enough:

In addition, he will move from writing his blog, The Spine, to writing a column for the website.

But this is good news in a measured sense, so thanks for passing it along.

Great. Now I’ve got this image in my head of Peretz shambling about going “Muslim braaaaaaaaains!”
