Oy (via John Cole):

Former Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards talked a campaign aide into claiming he fathered a child born to Edwards’ onetime mistress, sources familiar with the issue said Monday.

Edwards admitted to his affair with Rielle Hunter in August 2008 after months of denials, but said he could not have been the father of Hunter’s daughter, who was born the previous February. Former Edwards staffer Andrew Young has said he was the girl’s father — but has recanted and says he made it because he believed in Edwards, lawyers and others familiar with the matter told CNN.

Young was married with children when he claimed to have fathered Hunter’s child. He never signed any affidavits or legal papers, however, and reversed his claim after Edwards, as one of the sources put it, dropped Young “like a hot potato.”

[…]

The New York Times reported in August that Young has submitted a book proposal in which he tells publishers that Edwards knew all along that he was the father of Hunter’s child — and that he promised to marry her after his cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, dies.

Wow. We sure dodged a bullet there, didn’t we? Thanks for making me ashamed to have supported you in the primary, jackass.

“You’re so full of hate,” said the hater.

Life just isn’t fair to the Andrei Zhdanov of the Right, Brent Bozell. I mean, the very notion that at any given time someone in the media can disagree with him and still be gainfully employed afterward must really stick in his craw. It’s no wonder then, that he spent last Wednesday riding to the defense of the king of personal attacks, Rush Limbaugh. In his attempt to shield Limbaugh from any criticism whatsoever, he pointed to acerbic comments about Limbaugh from Ed Schultz, Ron Reagan, Jr., Jon Stewart and Mike Malloy as examples of how… wait for it… The LEFT™®© are solely responsible for the coarsening of our public discourse and that only The LEFT™®© could be so hateful.

No, seriously.

That boy is a P-I-G, PIG!*

Thrice-divorced oxycontin junkie Rush “I learned all I need to know about women from my cat” Limbaugh opines on Sen. Edwards’ infidelity:

Ladies and gentleman, my theory that I just explained to you about why — you know, what could have John Edwards’ motivations been to have the affair with Rielle Hunter, given his wife is smarter than he is and probably nagging him a lot about doing this, and he found somebody that did something with her mouth other than talk.

I guess now we know why Pillz-E’s always on the lookout for the future ex-Mrs. Limbaugh.

* With apologies to John Landis.

The news has been cancelled

John Edwards has admitted to having an affair with Rielle Hunter, an independent film producer who directed the production four web videos for his campaign. He has, however, denied being the father of Hunter’s child.

Naturally, the sound of millions creaming their pants in the orgasmic bliss of schadenfreude was heard around the wingnutosphere.

Meanwhile, the “librul” media is declaring this to be a good thing for Republicans.

*sigh* It always is.

Update (08/09/08, 14:44): I should point out that this will probably disqualify Edwards for any position in an Obama administration. Between that and the fact that he did this to his cancer-stricken wife…well, let’s just say that its lowered my opinion of Edwards several notches. In terms of asinine douchebaggery, it’s right up there with Newt Gingrich serving his wife with divorce papers in the cancer ward so that he could continue to do what he was in the midst of impeaching Clinton for.

Netroots Nation Day 3: An Inconvenient Surprise Guest (At Least, as far as Bill-O The Clown is Concerned!)

Nancy, you have some ’splainin to do!

Even if you hadn’t heard the rumors, the fact that there was a schedule change printout laying at every seat denoting the extended Q & A session with Speaker Pelosi practically screamed that something was up. My former representative, Lloyd Doggett, introduced the Speaker of the House, who gave a 10-15 minute speech praising the netroots for our efforts in returning sanity to America. After a little high school theater, that something was revealed: Al Gore had decided to drop in on Netroots Nation. It was definitely something to see.

For a more detailed recap, you might want to check out Paul Hogarth at Calitics and Jill Tubman over at Jack and Jill Politics. Rachel Sklar also has a good overview over at Huffington Post, if you want to start there. My only quibble with Rachel’s recap is her description of a “brief disruption” from the Code Pink protesters, as “several brief disruptions” would be a more accurate depiction.

Obamamania

Edwards endorses Obama. Pat Buchanan declares that This Is Good for Republicans™.

Stephen Colbert is t3h b0mbz0rz!

Not only did he give an outstanding interview to Rep. Patrick Murphy (D — PA) — the only veteran of Bush’s Quagmire to serve in Congress; he also rightly mocked ABC for their sham of a mockery of a debate.

But the icing on the cake was the presence of Sens. Clinton, Obama and Edwards.

Sen. Clinton came on early with a funny sketch where she proceeded to “fix a technical glitch” with one of the studio props — the giant telescreen that was behind Colbert.

Later on, John Edwards came on to give a special edition of The Wørd, known as “The EDWørdS“.

Finally, at the end of the show, Sen. Obama appeared in order to put manufactured media distractions “On Notice”:

And hilarity ensued.

One last (tangentially) Rev. Wright post

Sidebar: The tangential connection is vis a vis McCain’s crazy pastor endorsements, in case you’re wondering.

Back when I worked for a local grocery chain, I would occasionally see this bumper sticker that annoyed the hell out of me:

And so, in light of McBush’s crazy pastor endorsements, and as an “in yo’ FACE, Mo-Fo’s!” to the wingnuts and the media (but I repeat myself), here’s my response:
