Just because

So, Judas Iscariot shows his true colors once more, eh?
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) told reporters today that he would in fact filibuster any health care bill he doesn’t agree with—and right now, he doesn’t agree with the public option proposal making its way through the Senate.
“I told Senator Reid that I’m strongly inclined—I haven’t totally decided, but I’m strongly inclined—to vote to proceed to the health care debate, even though I don’t support the bill that he’s bringing together because it’s important that we start the debate on health care reform because I want to vote for health care reform this year. But I also told him that if the bill remains what it is now, I will not be able to support a cloture motion before final passage. Therefore I will try to stop the passage of the bill.”
When will the Senate Dems wise up to the fact that Joe Lieberman has not voted for one damn thing that they have wanted since 2001, and likely never will so long as he remains a Senator? When will they punish him for constantly stabbing them in the back?
When pigs fly, if Sen. Chris Dodd has anything to say about it.
*SIGH*
How did I end up in a party of co-dependent wimps and corporate whores who keep making excuses for their abusers?
Nearly five months later, the gang of theocratic thugs who laughably call themselves the “pro-life” movement continue to piss on Dr. Tiller’s grave:
An Army of God manual. A prison cookbook compiled by a woman doing time for abortion clinic bombings and arsons. An autographed bullhorn.
These are among the items that abortion foes plan to auction on eBay and other Web sites in a fundraiser for Scott Roeder, the Kansas City man charged with killing Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller.
“This is unique,” said Regina Dinwiddie [As JJ notes, Dinwiddie was the first person convicted under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act — Ed.], a Kansas City anti-abortion activist who will sign the bullhorn. “Nobody’s ever done this before. The goal is that everybody makes money for Scott Roeder’s defense.”
One abortion-rights leader called the auction deplorable and said it could lead to more violence. [Gee, ya think?! — Ed.]
“The network of extremists promoting and defending the murder of doctors is contributing to escalating threats against clinics and doctors across the country,” said Kathy Spillar, executive vice president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
You know, if these assholes had names like Sajid, Yasser, or Mohammed and the organization in question was, say, the Islamic American Relief Agency, this auction would’ve been dead in its tracks, the organization would’ve had its assets seized as a “terrorist cell,” and the perpetrators would already be on their way to Gitmo to be subjected to “enhanced interrogation” torture.

Takes one to know one, SIR:
In an interview with CBS News radio yesterday, former President George H.W. Bush called assailed the tone of our national discourse. “I don’t like it. The cables (TV) have a lot to do with it,” he said, adding that MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann were partly responsible:
The Republican elder statesman said, “It’s not just the right.” He complained, “there are plenty of people on the left.”
While he said he does not believe in personal name-calling, he singled out MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow calling them “sick puppies.”
“The way they treat my son and anyone who’s opposed to their point of view is just horrible,” Mr. Bush said.
That’s right. President George Horton’s Willie Bush called Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow “sick puppies” for alleged namecalling.
My irony meter just a-sploded.
Say, do you think they can be persuaded to make a version for Exalted, Scion, Serenity or GURPS?
Oh, and did I mention that this comes from the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon (my alma mater)?
Fairfax County, Va.: Hi Howard, This Sunday, I read the editorials in The Post and The New York Times about the surprise Peace Prize. I liked the NYT editorial (which was pro), but like most of us, including Obama, I could certainly have handled an editorial that was anti this choice.
When I read the Washington Post editorial, I felt so sad for what this paper has become. Their whole idea was that the prize should have gone to Neda, the woman who was murdered by the Iranian police. Nobel Peace Prizes can’t be given posthumously. It’s a basic, easy factcheck. There are other fact problems, too (the protests hadn’t happened by the nomination date, Neda may not have been a protester).
So the idea that the committee made a careless or inappropriate choice is refuted by a slapdash editorial “choice” that nobody bothered to check? It just screamed out to me “we laid off almost all the copy editors.” I feel so sad for The Post I grew up with. It’s great to have an opinion. It’s bad to look dumb.
Howard Kurtz: I take your point about no posthumous awards, though by that standard Martin Luther King couldn’t have won after being assassinated (yes, I know he won the prize earlier). My reading of the piece was that Neda was being used more as a symbol (though the rule should have been mentioned). But it’s an editorial. It is by definition opinion. Of course some readers are going to disagree.
Our opinion pieces are entitled to be unencumbered by those silly things you arrogantly call “facts!”
